You may already know that last month, I was invited to give two DisruptHR speeches - one in Los Angeles and one in Charlotte. If you aren’t familiar with DisruptHR, they are innovative events for HR and People professionals to come together to learn and develop skills. It’s definitely not your typical HR conference, there are 10-12 speakers who each give a 5-minute speech. That 5 minutes is STRICT. Our slides auto-advance every 15 seconds! Their website says “DISRUPT IS AN INFORMATION EXCHANGE DESIGNED TO ENERGIZE, INFORM AND EMPOWER PEOPLE IN THE HR FIELD.”
The videos from LA and CLT have been released! In these two coast-to-coast speeches, I take a deep dive into transforming our workplace culture and unleashing creativity in our professional lives. Whether you're in HR, leadership, or any role that impacts your company's culture, these talks offer valuable perspectives and practical tips to create more vibrant, fulfilling work environments.
On May 7th, I presented the first-ever DisruptHR Los Angeles Comedy Roast. As the “roastmaster”, I took a hard look at 'company culture,' that beacon of hope which often delivers more cringe than transformation. With a mix of satire and sincerity, I dissected how traditional company culture masks hypocrisy, blurs professional boundaries, and glorifies unhealthy work habits. But it’s not just a roast—it's a call to action. I envision a future where we move beyond outdated scripts to create vibrant, thriving workplace communities. Places where people come together not just to work, but to share, belong, and grow. Spaces where diversity and unity thrive, and personal fulfillment goes hand in hand with professional success. You can watch the 5-minute video here!
On May 15th, in Charlotte, I unraveled the myths about creativity and its role in our professional lives, particularly in HR. Through a personal story about my “uncreative” childhood, I reveal how creativity truly encompasses pattern recognition, non-linear thinking, and brain chemistry. In this engaging talk, I challenge the idea that HR lacks creativity, showing how embracing your creative side can elevate your recognition, confidence, and productivity. Plus, I share some engaging, simple activities to spark your creativity at work. You can watch the 5-minute video here!
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
