Neurodivergence at Work
Warning: there are a LOT of links in here. Wow.
Earlier this week on LinkedIn, I shared a teensy insight into an ADHD brain. As a neurodivergent solopreneur, my days are quite different from most people’s.
During every one of my workshops and presentations, I’m sure to disclose my own neurodivergence (ADHD and sensory processing issues) to create a welcoming and safe space for others who are also neurodivergent. I’m sure to state aloud that folx are welcome to do what they need to be most comfortable during our time together - whether that’s where or how they sit (or if they sit at all), what they do while they are listening (doodling, fidgeting, etc), or whether or not they participate in the interactive components - regardless of what they feel like they are usually SuPpOsEd to do. This allows any neurodivergent participant to unmask a bit and hopefully enhance their experience. (I have received great feedback about this in the past - you can read one example here)
This month, I’m thrilled to be the opening Keynote Speaker for the Steamboat Springs Chamber Empower Yampa Valleyevent about neurodiversity.
My session, titled Harnessing Neurodiversity: Building Inclusive & Innovative Workforce
shares the basics of neurodiversity from a lived experience lens while digging deep into what it means to cultivate a neurodiversity-affirming workforce and tap into benefits like increased productivity, revenue, and customer loyalty.
When Cecilia approached me several months ago about the idea for Culture Summit for the Steamboat Springs business community, I practically leaped through the phone with excitement. First of all, I love the Steamboat Springs Chamber of Commerce’s commitment to providing top-notch education and service to their community. Second, a day of talking about important company culture-based topics? (Third, a few days in Steamboat? Twist my arm!)
My friends Kali Love and Evelyn Walter will also be speaking that day on Unconscious Bias and Construction Communication.
If you’re in or near the Steamboat Springs area, definitely check it out!
